Test equipments for power generation systems

Inductive Loads

Inductive loads are complementary to resistive loads and, coupled with them, they have two main uses:

  • Performance tests of alternators and verification of behavior of their voltage regulators.
  • Tests of inverters under load stress.

In the first case, the inductors are generally inserted in parallel with the resistive load, so it is possible to freely adjust the power factor.

In the second case, the inductors are preferably inserted IN SERIES to their respective resistors, to limit the magnetizing inrush current (harmful for inverters). It is obtained an ohmic-inductive load with power steps of fixed power factor.

The BPE inductive loads are modular, adaptable to any already existing load system and, if coupled with our resistive loads, they can allow the execution of tests at power factor = 0.8 in the simpliest way, since each inductive step is sized depending on size of its respective resistive step.

See the standard sizes of our inductive loads (referred to a 400 V - 50 Hz power supply).

The inductance values defined for each reactive step allow also in this case a resolution of reactive power values equal to 1 kvar on the whole power scale, so to make possible a thin regulation of power factor in coupling with any resistive load, whichever is the subdivision of its load steps.
